What are the opening times of the Prehistory Park?

Are animals allowed in the Prehistory Park? Is there a kennel?


Animals are not permitted on site.

A kennel is available for visitors free of charge at the site entrance.

There are individual kennels with a water bowl, but no other care can be provided for the animals. Please note, a proof of identity will be required at the site entrance.


I lost something during my visit, who should I talk to?

Can I withdraw cash at the Prehistory Park?

No. The nearest cashpoint is located on the edge of Tarascon sur Ariège town.


Site Access


Is there a carpark near the park?

Yes. A large carpark is available in front of the site entrance.


Do I have to pay for the carpark?

No. There is no charge for the Prehistory Park carpark.


Are there parking places reserved for disabled people?

Yes. A parking space is reserved for disabled people in the carpark.


Can I park a camper van?

Yes. Camper vans can be parked in the Prehistory Park carpark during opening hours.


Is the site accessible to disabled people?

Yes. Almost all of the Prehistory Park is accessible to disabled people.


I have a young child, can I visit with a pushchair?

Yes. The Prehistory Park is pushchair friendly.

We only accept Visa and Eurocard/Mastercard.


Will I have to wait long at the site entrance?

In practice there is very little waiting time. We endeavour to reduce waiting times during the summer period as much as possible.


What is the best day to visit to avoid crowds?

If you can, it is best to come on a week day outside bank holidays. If you are only available at the weekend, Saturdays are generally less crowded.


Can I visit the Prehistory Park without booking?

Yes, it is not obligatory to pre-book your visit to the Prehistory Park.

However, booking is obligatory for group visits.

PLEASE NOTE. We recommend you book your table at the park restaurant in advance during the summer period.

How can I book my visit?

Booking can be made on the website through our online ticket office or by telephone on 05 61 05 10 10

Bookings for schools and groups can be made by telephone on 05 61 05 10 10.


Are holiday cheques accepted?

ANCV holiday cheques are accepted. We cannot give change but you can make up the total cost with another means of payment.


Are there preferential rates for disabled people, press etc…

Yes. Various reduced rates are proposed on presentation of proof of status.


- People with a disability or specific needs :

Our pricing policy: Paid entry in accordance with currents rates. The accompanying person, who helps or compensates for the disability is eligible for free entry.


- Teachers wishing to visit the site in preparation for a future visit with pupils are eligible for a free visit (PLEASE NOTE: this is upon reservation).


- Teachers visiting the sites privately, people over 60 years old and unemployed people do not qualify for preferential rates.


- The press: free entry on presentation of a press card.


Dining facilities on site


Can I picnic on site?


There is a designated picnic area at the Prehistory Park.


Can I dine at the Prehistory Park restaurant without visiting the site?

Yes.The Prehistory Park restaurant is open to all, even those not visiting the site. You simply have to tell reception this (A ticket will be issued).

PLEASE NOTE. We recommend you reserve a table at the park restaurant in advance during the summer period.

Visiting the site 

How long does the visit last?

We advise you allow at least 3 hours for your visit.


Can I come on a rainy day?


The paths between the facilitated workshops are outdoors but all the activities are under cover.


Can I take photos during the visit?

Yes, photos and videos are permitted on site.

Postcards, leaflets and illustrated works from our sites are available in the gift shops.


Are there guided tours and activities in other languages?

No. The workshops and activities are only available in French.

Visitor guides in English, Spanish, Catalan and German can however be obtained at reception.

The museum part and the ‘Giants of the Ice Age’ space are audio-guided.

The audio-guides are available in French, English, Spanish, Catalan, German and Dutch with separate guides for adults and children.


The site gift shop


Can I go to the Prehistory Park gift shop without visiting the site?

Yes. The gift shop can be accessed without visiting the site (just tell the ticket office).


I am weighed down with my purchases, is there somewhere I can leave them?

We can offer you even better! You can leave your purchases in the gift shop to take full advantage of your visit and pick up all you purchases at the end before the shop closes.


Can I access the gift shop in a wheelchair?

Yes. The Prehistory Park gift shop is wheelchair friendly.

Is there a playground near the Prehistory Park?

Yes. A playground is available to children within the site. This area is for park visitors only.
