Is there disabled access to Foix castle?

The castle is an old medieval fortress perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the town. As a listed historical monument, it cannot always provide the access facilities we would like to be able to offer our disabled visitors nor meet contemporary access criteria.

Physical access measures are not advised at present for technical reasons since these would entail undertaking building works which would seriously damage the historical integrity of the building.

However, we are currently in the process of re-examining this issue in detail before integrating improvements in access into the heart of the project in order to find a subtle balance between respecting the historical monument and improving accessibility and comfort for our visitors.

I have a young child, can I visit with a pushchair?

The existence of cobblestones and wall walks make the paths uneven and difficult to access with a pushchair.

The towers are accessed by spiral staircases and the upper floors cannot be reached with a pushchair.

It is thus not recommended to visit the castle with a pushchair, but it is not however forbidden.
